Albany Stakes Overview
The Albany Stakes is a Group 3 flat race that takes place every year at Royal Ascot. It was first introduced to the Royal Ascot schedule back in 2002. Fillies aged two years are eligible to enter this race. It is run over a short distance of 6 furlongs at Ascot Racecourse.
In the short space of time that the Albany Stakes has been included in the Ascot schedule, it has grown from a Listed race to a Group 3 level race to become a highly-anticipated attraction on the fourth day of action.
The original name of the race was the Henry Carnarvon Stakes, named in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s racing manager, Henry Herbert, 7th Earl of Carnarvon, who sadly passed away in 2001. The name was changed to the Albany Stakes in 2003 when it changed from being a Listed status race to a Group 3 level.
