What types of Free Bets are there?

These offers have been around since just after dinosaurs left the planet, basically a long time! Occasionally, bookmakers differ in how they work and we're here to give you the lowdown on the different types that are out there. However, unless a free bet offer is listed above, we absolutely don't encourage you to sign up with that bookie. There are no deposit, matched bets, deposit bonus, Bet X Get X and also risk free is another type. So check out our explanation on each tab of the different offer types.

What are Matched Bets?

This type of bet is mixed up with the term "Matched Betting" which we absolutely do not encourage - more on that later. Matched bets are the most common type you will come across. When you place your first bet with the bookmaker it is matched with the exact same amount. So, if you bet £5, you'll get £5 and dependant on the maximum offer of the bookmaker, if you bet £50 for the first time, you'll get a £50 free bet and so on. The majority of bookies have a 100% match offer, however you do sometimes get a 50% match, so it's always best to read the terms and conditions. Luckily for you, we've done the hard work for you, just click "View Terms" on any offer above.

Matched betting is not encouraged because it is fraught with danger, don't believe any website that says it isn't. We're professional punters and we know betting inside out. If the bookmakers catch you doing this, they can close your account down before you get the chance to place the second half of the bet needed to secure the profit. Other websites sell subscriptions for this, but it is definitely not recommended by anyone at Punters Lounge. You have been warned!

£10 Matched Bet Example: Open and account and bet £10, win or lose, the bookmaker will give you £10 if you met the minimum odds.

What are Risk-Free Bets?

These are basically when your first bet loses, they'll refund your losing bet up to a certain amount. Minimum odds are virtually always applied to these offers, so be careful. In nearly every case you cannot withdraw the risk free amount they give you, only the winnings you make. Just register, make your first bet and if it loses, claim away!

£10 Risk Free Example:
Open and account and bet £10. Bet Loses, you get £10 from the bookmaker to bet with.

What are No Deposit Bonus?

This is where you just need to register and they'll give you the amount to bet with without depositing at all! Crazy right? Again, you can only keep the winnings and not the initial amount given. These are generally quite rare in sports betting and much more associated with casino and bingo. However, only recently Skybet had one and they are obviously very popular. Again, watch our for the minimum odds rule.

£10 No Deposit Example: Open and account and get £10 free to bet with, no need for deposit.

What is a Deposit Bonus?

Another variation, but this is based on the amount you deposit when you first put money into the bookmaker - only the first deposit! Yet again, these are more associated with casino than sports betting, but there are some as you can see above.

£10 Deposit Bonus Example: Open and account and deposit £10. You will get a £10 bonus in your account without placing a bet.

What is a "Bet 10 Get 20" Free Bet Offer?

It's as simple as whatever your first bet is, ie £10, you will get £20 when you have met the minimum odds terms. There are many variations of these, and these are without doubt the best offers out there. They range from bet £5 get £20, to as high as Bet £10 Get £60, which is fantastic for the punter.

£10 "Bet 10 Get 20" Example: Open an account, deposit and bet £10. As long as you met the minimum odds, you will get £20 to bet with for free.
