5-5 is the score between the English and Irish in this valuable prize over the last 10 years, and the winner of each of the last two renewals have come at a price. With that in mind, the Henry De Bromhead-trained ARCTIC BRESIL looks the way to go. The seven-year-old is yet to taste success over fences in three starts, but his most recent second behind the promising Mister Policeman at Punchestown suggests he is on the improve and that performance makes a mark of 135 look manageable on his handicap debut. Last year's third, Shakem Up'arry, only has a 4lb higher mark to contend with this time around and comes into the race on the back of a smooth C&D victory in the Paddy Power New Year's Day Handicap. Crebilly is likely to attract plenty of support after beating two rivals who have finished second in Grade 2 events, so he should be competitive off a rating of 140.

The TrustATrader Plate Handicap Chase is a Premier Handicap open to horses aged five years or older. Run over 2 miles 4 furlongs and 127 yards on the new course, there are seventeen fences to be negotiated. The winner’s prize money is likely to be around £68,000. The race takes place on the third day of the meeting, usually as the fifth of seven races.
TrustATrader Plate Betting Trends and Statistics
Three trainers share the record for the most wins in the race, each with four victories: Bobby Renton between 1954 and 1968, Nicky Henderson from 1985 to 2006, and Martin Pipe from 1997 to 2002. The leading jockey is Fred Winter, who achieved three wins, all in the 1950s.
Only two horses have won the race more than once: The Tsarevich in 1985 and 1986, and Elfast in 1992 and 1994.

The first renewal was in 1951, run in memory of the 2nd Baron Mildmay Of Flete who died the previous year aged only 41 and who was an amateur jockey who won three times at the Cheltenham Festival. The race was originally called Mildmay Of Flete Handicap Chase.
