thumbsup Formula One - Australian GP - 29 March 2009

Perhaps a little early but one to watch is Brawn.

Yesterday they set a blistering pace at Barcelona. Their laptimes were less than qualifying pace for other teams who are running scared. The mainstream media have only just got a hold of this today.

Everyone expected Brawn to be at the back of the grid given that this is their one and only test. However, they have been working on this car for close to 2 years and their aerodynamics are very unique.

Could they be running underweight to get sponsors on board? It's possible and it has been done before by Prost GP several years ago. However, you have to question why a team would not want to get meaningful data at their very first and what may be their one and only test (although I understand they are going to Jerez).

If the other teams don't catch up then one of the drivers would naturally be in the running for the drivers championship, perhaps the constructors championship is a safer bet.

There are no prices yet from Betfair (haven't checked elsewhere) for the Aussie GP but I'll be back when there are. For the moment, Brawn are 14.5 to win the WCC and Button/Barichello 25/34 to win the WDC. I'd say Barichello is the smarter bet with experience of winning and having outclassed his teammate last year.

Cheers for the heads up Rolf. I managed to claim 81 for Barrichello and 34 for Button. Just missed 41 for Constructors but managed to get 21s which is still overs. Most of these prices didn't hold but for those looking to back Reubens he was still 71 at www.sportsbet.com.au last time I checked.

Hamilton's gutsy drive o last day of last season has hardened him. Mclarens poor test record leave him at 10's for the GP. Mclaren know they need points o the board and if possible a win. I think EW at 10's is worth it. Lewis will want to do well despite problems in the car.

Brawn look a hot ticket for constructors.

Also if a price is available have a few quid on RBR to win constructors in next 5 years. They are pumping millions into their teams and with the new cap the richest of the rich will be te only ones able to keep up with the advantags that come wih staying under the 30 mil.

rosberg to win at 9.00 at bwin

also you would want to look at trulli for pole at 12.00

Trulli is a specialist at qualfying and his car is fast!

I have to agree with roflf123 on this and say Brawn are definatly the ones to watch this weekend. I still think that they have a lot to give still and this weekend could be a real eye-opener in terms of the 'big boys' in F1! I blogged a little about teh opening weekend early today if any1 is interested. (Link removed. Permission required)

Button fastest lap @2.8 betfair
Barrichello fastest lap @3.75 bet365

is that a banker or am I missing something?

I agree that about the fastest laps those is a good couple of bankers Budda, anyhow I am fancying Alonso to win the GP @ 55 on betfair, after all the Brawn GP has yet to show if they are reliable car in a real race, and I somewhat trust Renault and Alonso more than other opponents to make a surprise at these price.

BOL to anyone!

Brawn have superior race pace and with higher fuel loads they will definitely be quicker but we've seen in free practice that the Williams have very good one lap pace. A hot lap by someone like Vettel or Rosberg with low fuel load could win this one given that by the 2nd pit stop Brawn will probably just be driving conservatively to the finish line as I expect them to be well ahead by then.

Nico Robserg was fastest in all practice sessions and also claimed the fastest lap honours here last year. At odds of 19 I think he's a great bet and I've backed it accordingly.

Thanks Budda, was a nice little hit for me. Hope you were able to make some $$$ on the winners market.

I must say a BIG thanks to Rolf for posting the Brawn information. I was able to get in very early and now have a huge interest for the season. Haven't been this excited about a betting prospect for a long time, so many thanks Rolf.
