The three-mile Liverpool Hurdle is the last Grade One long-distance hurdle of the British jump racing season. The race takes place as the fourth race on the third and final day of the prestigious Aintree Festival meeting. It is scheduled as the last race before the highly anticipated Grand National on Saturday.
It will normally feature horses that ran well in the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival the previous month. This will be the 21st renewal at Aintree Racecourse and proves a good test for the best staying hurdlers on both sides of the Irish Sea.

Jet2 Liverpool Hurdle (Grade 1) (GBB Race)
A fine renewal of this illustrious contest, not least because last year's one-two Hiddenvalley Lake and Strong Leader lock horns again. Shock Stayers' Hurdle winner Home By The Lee bids to be the first veteran to win this since the classy Sire Du Berlais in 2022 and 2023, whilst the impressive BetMGM Cup victor Jingko Blue deserves to take his chance at this level and must not be underestimated. Stable companion Impose Toi was pulled up in the Stayers' but he did land the Long Walk at Ascot in December. The fact he isn't even near the top of the betting market currently shows just how competitive this is, so it isn't much of a surprise that only a tentative vote can go to HONESTY POLICY. Gordon Elliott's charge has work to do to reverse form with a few of these but it the way in which he travelled into the contest at Cheltenham was taking. Last year's Mersey success still lives fresh in the memory so returning to a flatter track will be no bad thing and if a first-time tongue-tie can work the oracle, he may well take a significant step forward.

Liverpool Hurdle History
The race was originally run at Ascot Racecourse before being switched to Aintree in 2004 when it originally opened the Grand National meeting on day one. It was after this location change that it earned its current name after the city of Liverpool.
Six years later, it was granted Grade One status by the British Horseracing Authority, and in 2013, it was moved to its current position on Grand National day. The race has become synonymous with the Paul Nicholls-trained Big Buck’s after the talented horse managed to win four years in a row between 2009 and 2012.
