In-Play Betting

4 /5
Betfred in-play betting interface showing live football and tennis matches, with real-time odds, match scores, and ‘Acca Flex’ icons next to select fixtures. Sidebar menu includes sports like horse racing, greyhounds, basketball, and tennis.

In-play betting is hugely popular these days and Betfred caters well for this demand. They have a large in-play section that covers a wide range of sports, including horse racing, football, tennis, basketball, and cricket

Events are clearly organised, with a separate tab showing events that are about to go live.

Clicking on an event opens a virtual match tracker that displays real-time play-by-play updates and basic stats.

While the odds aren’t always the most competitive compared to other in-play bookmakers, like bet365 or SBK. We rarely saw markets suspended unnecessarily, which is a common frustration with some bookies.

Interestingly, on desktop, Betfred uses a two-column layout to display its in-play markets. We found this design unintuitive compared to other online bookmakers, who typically opt for a single-column view with market events stacked vertically.

That said, when you’re used to in-play interfaces looking a certain way, any deviation can feel jarring at first. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference.

On mobile, however, Betfred sticks to the conventional vertical layout you’ll find on most other bookmaker apps and sites, which we found easier to navigate.

Live Streaming

3.4 /5

Betfred offers one of the most extensive live streaming services of any UK bookmaker. You can stream a wide range of sports, including UK and Irish horse racing, greyhound racing, football, tennis, snooker, rugby, basketball, darts, and more.

To access live streams, you must either place a bet on the event or have a funded account used within the past 24 hours.

As with most bookmakers, streams are slightly delayed. On average we found it to be around 20 seconds behind which is in line with industry norms.

Interestingly, the streams varied quite a bit in terms of the quality. For example, the horse racing streams were smooth with minimal lag.

However, we did come across some issues when watching tennis where  we experienced freezing and distortion.

These were minor issues but worth noting for those focused on fast-paced sports.

Sports Betting Markets

4.1 /5

With 20+ sports that you can bet on, you’re not going to be found wanting at Betfred:

Betting Features

5 /5

Betfred includes a number of distinctive features designed to enhance the betting experience:

Betfred Insight

This dedicated editorial section publishes expert tips, previews, and betting guides across football, golf, darts, horse racing, and more. We found it to be one of the most in-depth betting content hubs among UK bookmakers. Great for punters hwo value informed picks and analysis.

Betfred commentary

Betfred offers live audio commentary on football, horse racing, and greyhound racing and you don’t have to be registered to use it. It’s a useful alternative if you can’t watch a stream and want to stay updated on key events.

Double Delight & Hat-trick Heaven

Betfred were the pioneers of this feature and its still quite a unique offering. If your first goalscorer nets a second goal, your odds are doubled. If they score a hat-trick, they’re tripled.

Mobile Betting

4.5 /5
Side-by-side view of the Betfred mobile sportsbook on two iPhones, showing the in-play betting interface with price boosts, match odds for Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur, and navigation tabs for In-Play, Next 5, Promotions, and account options.

Betfred performs well on mobile. Their mobile site is responsive and easy to use.

Likewise, the mobile app that’s available on iOS and Android, stands up against the best sports betting apps for navigation.

The top and bottom navigation bars make it simple to find key areas quickly. We also liked the promotional slider, which highlights the latest offers, and the handy ‘Next 5’ quick link for horse racing, which is ideal for racing punters looking for quick access.

One drawback we noticed was a delay in football score updates when checking cash-out values for accumulators. This lag made it harder to make timely cash-out decisions and could be frustrating during fast-paced matches.

Welcome Bonus & Promotions

5 /5

Betfred are the king of betting offers and at the time of writing they have over 20 promotions listed on their promotions page. Here are a few of our favourites.

Sports Welcome Offer – The Betfred welcome offer is one of the best you’re likely to come across. You receive £50 in free bets when you create an account, make a deposit of £10 and place a bet that has odds of at least evens (2.0). Once that bet is settled you will receive the following:

  • 3 X £10 Sports bets
  • 2 X £10 Acca bets

A couple of things to note is that you must make your deposit using a debit card and your qualifying bet has to be placed within seven days of you registering.

Free Bet Club – Betfred have two free bet clubs, one for greyhound racing and another for cricket. If you opt in to the promotion and place three qualifying bets, you receive a free bet up to the value of £10.

Acca Flex – This is quite a new concept and combines a profit boost with acca insurance. If your acca wins you can receive anything up to 100% boost on your winnings. And if you don’t have a winning football acca and one team lets you down, you can get your money back up to the value of £10. To qualify you have to select at least five legs in your accumulator and each leg has to have odds of 1/2 (1.5) or greater.

They also have a plethora of bonuses and promotions surrounding horse racing, including:

  • Extra places paid on pre-determined races
  • 10% winnings boost
  • Money back as cash if 2nd on selected races
  • Free bet if 2nd on selected races
  • Multiply your odds on Lucky 63, Lucky 31 and Lucky 15 bets
  • 10% winning tricast bonus
  • Best odds guaranteed (from 08.00 on the day of the race)

Loyalty Program

Betfred doesn’t currently offer a traditional tiered loyalty programme like mr.play. However, racing fans can still earn rewards by linking their Betfred account to Rewards4Racing.

If you register with the same email address, you’ll earn points for every qualifying horse racing bet placed through Betfred. These points can be redeemed for tickets, hospitality packages, and merchandise associated with major UK racing events.

Additionally, features like the Free Bet Club (covered above) function similarly to loyalty incentives, rewarding regular betting activity with weekly free bets in specific sports.

Payment Methods

5 /5

Betfred supports a solid range of payment methods, including debit cards, e-wallets, and bank transfers.

However, where Betfred really excels is their withdrawal processing times. We were really impressed that withdrawals were processed within 4-6 hours, which is faster than the industry average.

Method Fee Process Time Min. Deposit Max. Withdrawal
Instant Bank Transfer Free Instant £5 Up to 6 hours
Bacs Free NA NA 1-3 business days
Neteller Free Instant £5 Up to 6 hours
PayPal Free Instant £5 Up to 6 hours
Paysafecard Free Instant £5 Up to 6 hours
Skrill Free Instant £5 Up to 6 hours
Visa Free Instant £5 Up to 4 hours

Customer Support

2.5 /5

Betfred can be contacted via live chat, email, and postal mail. Live chat is accessible directly from the help section of the website or mobile app.

In our testing, customer service was one of Betfred’s weaker points. Average wait times for live chat were around 10 minutes, and some support agents lacked immediate knowledge of key account features, like whether Betfred offered a loyalty program.

While all of our queries were eventually resolved, the support experience didn’t feel as efficient or well-trained as we’ve seen from competitors like bet365.

Punters Lounge Verdict:
Betfred

Betfred is a well-established and reliable bookmaker that offers a strong overall package. They offers punters great promotions, wide range of betting markets, and quick withdrawals.

Their extensive bonus selection, dedicated racing offers, and in-play features make them a solid choice for casual bettors and accumulator fans alike. The mobile experience is also strong, especially on the app, and core functionality like depositing, betting, and streaming works well across devices.

That concludes our Betfred review and overall we would say Betfred does a lot of things well and they will appeal to a broad spectrum of clients. They offer one of the longest lists of promotions you’re likely to come across from a bookmaker, there are plenty of sports to choose from to bet on and they have some really cool features that you might not find at many other bookmakers.

However, there’s room for improvement. Customer support can be slow and inconsistent, and live streaming occasionally suffers from quality issues.

That said, Betfred remains a recommended option for UK bettors who enjoy ongoing promotions and want access to a trusted, long-running bookmaker that supports responsible gambling and pays out quickly.
