3-57 @ Lingfield – Milltown Star (7/1)
Milltown Star had dropped to a workable mark and took advantage when winning last time out at Southwell over this one-mile trip. He is well suited by an artificial surface as he has now made the frame in five of his seven starts on them including winning twice. He spent a long time in the wilderness before winning his first race in three-and-a-half years at Southwell last time. He has only been raised three-pounds for that win and he remains on a good mark that Jamie Osborne can fully exploit. Shane Kelly rode him for a second placed finish at Epsom back in August. This track is somewhat similar to that one and no surprises if they continue on a winning run.
5-00 @ Wolverhampton – Madrinho (5/1)
Madrinho could well prove to be the answer despite the annoyance of top-weight. The ten-year-old son of Frozen Power has hinted at a return to form recently and only went down by two lengths over this course and distance a couple of weeks ago when touched off by Bond Boy and The Nail Gunner. His handicap mark is beginning to look attractive, in fact he is now rated four pounds below his last winning mark. Many of his rivals have had their fair share of efforts on this surface without success. Given that he is at least proven around here; he has to be high on any shortlist. He should be fully fit now on what will be his fourth run back after a two-month break. Clifford Lee doesn’t ride many for Tony Carroll but has a useful 25% strike rate when they team up. It could be a significant booking and the pair should go well.
6-30 Wolverhampton – Libra Tiger (7/2)
Libra Tiger hinted at ability whilst in training with David Menusier but never really got the opportunity to show that on the track. His first two runs over six furlongs were decent at Goodwood and Newbury, but he just seemed to lose his way a little after that. He has subsequently switched stables to Ed Walker and the move clearly did him the world of good as he won on debut at Kempton Park just a little over a fortnight ago when ridden by Tom Marquand. He had dropped to his lowest ever mark of 68 and he is raised only three-pounds for that win here. He will be ridden for the first time by a very much in form Saffie Osborne and the partnership can reap instant rewards.
8-00 Wolverhampton – Henry The Fifth (11/2)
Henry The Fifth is back down to an attractive looking mark and has run well here in the past. He has been a model of consistency all year and even managed to pick up a win at Yarmouth last May. Only beaten a couple of lengths over this trip at Kempton on his most recent start, the five-year-old son of Dawn Approach seems well suited by these stamina sapping staying trips. He was only beaten two lengths over this course and distance back in December too, so he is clearly on good terms with himself. Anthony Carson has kept him ticking over nicely and no surprise to see Henry The Fifth finish a lot closer today.
