Lucky 15 Tips For New Year’s Day
12-20 Exeter – Marco Island (15/4)
Marco Island is a dual winner at Chepstow and now runs away from that track for the first time in his short career. He absolutely loves it when the mud is flying and if able to transfer his hurdles ability to these bigger fences, he should make his mark in this sphere. Today he also makes his handicap debut, and the handicapper is taking no chances. Marco Island clearly goes well fresh and should be capable of making an impact on what could be a good season for him.
2-00 Fairyhouse – Elle Dorado Rock (4/1)
Elle Dorado Rock looks like a typical plot job from Tony Martin. The five-year-old son of Fascinating Rock has shown limited ability in the couple of starts over hurdles so far this season. He will have been well schooled at home coming into this though and despite only finishing in the midfield last time out, he was only beaten ten lengths. He has dropped to an enviable looking mark and the trainer is well renowned for never missing an opportunity to strike with his runners. This step up to three miles is certainly in his favour and he can stay on in the closing stages when his rivals have cried enough.
2-20 Fakenham – Templehills (12/1)
Templehills may now be in the twilight stages of his career, but he can show he still retains plenty of ability by going close in this handicap hurdle. He looks thrown in here compared to his rating over the larger obstacles and he is a multiple winner on this type of ground. A lot of his rivals in this race have struggled to find their true form so a two-month absence from the track may well play into his favour. Jack Savage is an up-and-coming claimer who can take a useful five pounds off for the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained runner. If he can put it all together he can go close here.
2-40 Exeter – In Rem (15/2)
In Rem can prove his running at Sandown was all wrong last time by running a big race here. The underfoot conditions are much more in his favour and having won at the track in the past and having proven himself over the trip, he has those most important boxes checked. The eight-year-old son of Kapgarde improved through the handicapping system last season and he can get his career back on track for Jane Williams here with a more positive display. We know he stays a lot further than this so expect plenty of use to be made of him.
