There are no fewer than four Grade 1 races on the second day of action at the Aintree Grand National Festival, including the Mildmay Novices’ Steeple Chase, the Top Novices’ Hurdle, the Melling Chase and the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle.

To add extra flavour to Aintree Racecourse on the second day of this three-day festival, we have a couple of exciting handicap hurdle races as well as The Topham Chase.

It’s Ladies Day at Aintree on the Friday of this highly-anticipated festival, and with a lot of best-dressed ladies on display, the champagne corks will soon be popping as the runners head to the start for Aintree races on Friday.

Mystical Power brought his true ability to this track last season when taking the Top Novices Hurdle in fine style ahead of also winning the Champion Novice Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival a few weeks further down the line.

Below, we will take you through the race schedule, key trends and our top betting tips for Aintree on Friday, Day 2.

Aintree Grand National – Friday Racecards

Aintree Day 2 Betting Trends

I’ve taken a look back over the last 10 years of Aintree Grand National Friday runners to find the interesting betting trends that you might find useful when considering your bets:

  • The leading trainer in the Top Novices Hurdle in recent renewals is Nicky Henderson who has won the race no fewer than six times with those six winners coming from General Miller (2010), Darlan (2012), My Tent Or Yours (2013), Josses Hill (2014), Buveur DAir (2016) and Jonbon (2022).
  • There are two leading trainers in the Melling Chase in recent renewals with both Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson who have both won the race three times. Paul Nicholls’ winners have been with Master Minded (2011), Politologue (2018) and Pic D’ Orhy (2023). Nicky Henderson’s winners have been Finians Rainbow (2012), Sprinter Sacre (2013) and Jonbon (2024).
  • Stuart Edmunds has a perfect record in the Topham Chase and has trained one winner from just one previous runner in the race (Arizona Cardinal 2024)
  • Ciaran Gethings has a perfect record in the Topham Chase and has ridden one winner from just one previous runner in the race (Arizona Cardinal 2024)
  • Nicky Henderson is the winning most trainer of the William Hill Handicap Hurdle with three previous wins in the race.
  • Jack Kennedy is the jockey to follow in the William Hill Handicap Hurdle. He has won the race twice from just four previous attempts.
