World Seniors Championship Betting: Nigel Bond and Cliff Thorburn look the highlights in remainder of Saturday evening
The remainder of the evening session on the opening night of the World Seniors Championship sees two more former world champions in action as the 1985 champion Dennis Taylor and the 1980 champion Cliff Thorburn begin their quest for another world title, this time of the seniors variety. Taylor will face the 1995 world finalist Nigel Bond while Thorburn will face the 1981 world finalist Doug Mountjoy. The other match in the session sees Darren Morgan playing Gary Wilkinson.
Nigel Bond is a warm favourite to beat Dennis Taylor and that comes as no real surprise really given that Bond is not only still on the main tour but often reaches the televised stages of tournaments whereas although Dennis plays a lot on the legends tour you feel he plays more for the craic than for the seriousness of the competition. A small bet on Bond to win 2-0 could be the order of the day there.
I have a sneaky feeling Darren Morgan will do well in this event. He does a lot of work with the Welsh youngsters so he’s always kept his eye in on the game and I think he’s got a fair draw here against Gary Wilkinson as well. Wilkinson is still involved in snooker but from an admin side rather than a playing side so I would expect Darren Morgan to come through that one.
The final match of the night will see the grinder Cliff Thorburn in action in a match I would expect him to win. I don’t know too much about Doug Mountjoy’s snooker these days but I do know he doesn’t take part in too many of the legends events unlike Thorburn who plays in a few when he’s over from Canada. Professional pride ensures he puts the work in before those events so I think he should be a good bet at 4/6.
Back N.Bond to beat D.Taylor 2-0 for a 3/10 stake at 2.00 with Stan James
Back C.Thorburn to beat D.Mountjoy for a 3/10 stake at 1.67 with Skybet
