World Championship Betting: Peter Ebdon still 100/1 for world title despite winning China Open
Only Bodog now offer 100/1 on Peter Ebdon to win the World Championship later in the month after the veteran Englishman won the China Open in Beijing on Sunday. Ebdon beat Matthew Stevens, John Higgins, Neil Robertson and Ding Junhui on his way to Sunday’s final against Stephen Maguire, Ebdon’s first ranking event final since he won the China Open for the first time in 2009.
In a very slow first session of snooker in the best of 19 frame final it was Ebdon who seized the early initiative in the tournament decider. He hit two centuries breaks in a thoroughly dominant performance in the early stages as he led 5-1 at the end of the opening session which was cut short by three frames because of the length of time it took for the six frames to be played even allowing for the two tons.
Stephen Maguire needed to do something in the second session else he would see the final running away from him but he could only share the first two frames before winning the next two to be 6-4 down at the mid session interval. Ebdon’s third ton put him 7-4 up before the next two were shared to put Ebdon 8-5 up and two frames away from victory.
Stephen Maguire then found his stride and won three frames on the bounce to level the match at 8-8 before Ebdon kicked on once again. Another 103 break put him 9-8 ahead and while he messed up a chance to win in the penultimate frame he made amends in the deciding frame to win a thrilling final 10-9. Stephen Maguire enjoyed an excellent tournament himself and he is a top price of 16/1 with Boylesports among others to win a first world title in Sheffield later this month.
