Whitlock vs Barneveld Betting: Two improved scorers in recent times can cover a low looking 180's line
The second match in week one of the new McCoys Premier League darts season sees a rematch of the World Cup semi final from last weekend when Simon Whitlock takes on Raymond Barneveld. This time however the match is over the best of 14 legs rather than the best of 7 when they played last weekend. Simon Whitlock comes into the encounter as the 4/5 favourite with BetVictor to pick up an opening night win.
Simon Whitlock, along with his partner Paul Nicholson, were narrow runners up in the World Cup in Hamburg last weekend but Whitlock in particular played very well to go along with his strong performance in the World Championship where he should really have made the final having been 5-3 up on Andy Hamilton before Hamilton came back to win 6-5. Whitlock is scoring heavily but his finishing was also good for the most part in Germany last weekend.
It could be argued Raymond Barneveld is in this tournament on the back of his name alone rather than anything he has achieved over the past 12 months but now that he is here he’ll be itching to perform to his best and silence his critics, of whom there are many. Having gone out of the last two singles majors to Scott Rand and James Richardson, Barney will need to find his best game to compete in this tournament.
Whitlock is probably a worthy favourite for this match but I’ve learnt the hard way that taking players at odds on in this tournament with the draw in play is a quick way to the poorhouse so instead I will head over to the 180’s market because the 6.5 total line looks very low to me. Whitlock has really been banging in the 180’s recently, more so than he ever has I would say whereas Barneveld is hitting more in recent times too. I would expect these two heavy scorers to cover this line and cover it with a bit to spare.
