White vs Knowles Betting: Defending champion White can make quarter finals without losing a frame
The main match of the evening session on the opening day of the World Seniors Championship sees the defending champion Jimmy White begin the defence of his title against Tony Knowles over the best of three frames at the East of England Showground in Peterborough. Jimmy White still plays on the main tour which will give him an advantage over Tony Knowles who no longer competes on the main tour but who has played some of the PTC events this year.
Jimmy White has competed in a number of events this season and although he hasn’t had much success in many he has been competitive in the main and that should be enough to get the job done here. When he won the title last year he showed he had a class above those who weren’t regularly playing and although he’s been outplayed by the top level players on the main tour he won’t meet that level of opponent here.
Tony Knowles was formerly as high as number two in the world back in the mid 80’s and was three times a semi finalist in the World Championship so there’s no doubt he could play and by virtue of the fact he stumps up the entry fee for the PTC tournaments he must still be putting some work in on the practice table.
Even though Tony Knowles is still playing a bit I can’t see anything other than a Jimmy White win here and I think he’ll win it without dropping a frame. When he gets in he’s still good around the balls and nearly made a 147 in one of the PTC events which goes to highlight that fact. Knowles may still play but I would expect him to need a lot more than one chance per frame and he’s not guaranteed to get those chances so I’m happy to take the Whirlwind to win this 2-0.
