Power Snooker Betting: Matthew Stevens and Mark Allen provide the value on Saturday afternoon's card
The opening session of Power Snooker 2011 in Manchester will see the last 16 matches in the top half of the draw played out. That means in total there will be four matches in this session with the headline match probably the game between Mark Allen and John Higgins. Also in action in the afternoon session are Mark Selby who takes on Matthew Stevens, Shaun Murphy who plays Stuart Bingham and Judd Trump who has Martin Gould as his opponent.
This is generally a format for the players who see the shots quickly and take advantage of that. With the 2 minutes powerplays you have to be able to take full advantage of that and Mark Selby is more of a strategic planner around the table. Matthew Stevens is more instinctive and has recent experience of the shot clock and I think he could well be a spot of value in the opening match of the tournament.
Judd Trump looks a worthy favourite in his match against Martin Gould with the format likely to suit the former. I like Mark Allen against John Higgins for the same reason as I like Matthew Stevens. Allen is instinctive. He doesn’t always play the right shot or the correct shot but he makes his mind up and commits to the shot and has that ability to score points quickly which is what is needed here.
In the other match of the session Stuart Bingham is certainly playing well enough to cause an upset on Shaun Murphy who hasn’t played his best snooker this season but who certainly has the profile to go well in this tournament. At the end of the day it’s all about potting balls and when he’s in few do it better than Murphy. Bingham could be considered a value bet but for me the two best bets in this session are Mark Allen and Matthew Stevens.
