Newton vs Whitlock Betting: Simon Whitlock should be expecting to come through in the final match of the night
The final match of week five of the Premier League darts show is a repeat of last year’s European Championship final as Wes Newton takes on Simon Whitlock. Back then these two were competing for the European title and now they both need points to pull away from the Premier League relegation zone. Neither side have started the season brilliantly but someone will pull away from the drop zone after this match.
Wes Newton picked up his first Premier League win when he beat a very disappointing Adrian Lewis last week. He goes into this match as a 9/4 shot with Coral for back to back wins. Newton is yet to average 95 in this tournament and you fancy that’s the minimum he’ll need to average here. He will certainly have to average a lot more than the 85 average he beat Adrian Lewis with last week if he is to win here.
Simon Whitlock has lost his last two matches and won only five legs in them but he hasn’t actually played that badly he has just run into an express train twice. Phil Taylor averaged over 107 against him a fortnight ago while Raymond Barneveld didn’t miss anything in their match last week. After two weeks of struggling with his scoring, Whitlock has found that area of his game which bodes well for him here.
Although he’s a short price at odds on in this match I do think Whitlock is the likely winner and while I try to look for value in betting sometimes you just have to back who you think will win and that is what I will do here. Newton’s scoring isn’t consistent and he’s missed doubles in every match so far and he won’t get away with that if Whitlock plays how he has the last two weeks. I like the Australian in this one.
