Newcastle vs Chelsea Betting: Newcastle's strong start can continue with win over under pressure Blues
St James Park will be an emotional place Saturday lunchtime when Newcastle entertain Chelsea in the first match since the tragic death of their former player Gary Speed. An emotional tribute is planned before the game for the former Newcastle midfielder and Newcastle fans will hope that spurs their side on to getting a win as a tribute to him. Chelsea are in need of the points themselves though so this will be a tough game for both sides.
Newcastle come into the match off the back of a wonderful and morale boosting draw at Old Trafford last week where yes they rode their luck but they defended stoutly and came away with a wonderful point. That means Manchester City remain the only side to have beaten Alan Pardew’s men this season which is a fantastic achievement and with this being the lunchtime game a win here will send Newcastle third temporarily. Leon Best hopes to return to the side after injury but Cheick Tiote remains out.
Chelsea are going through a bit of a rough run at the minute despite their 3-0 win over Wolves last week. They were dumped out of the Carling Cup by Liverpool in midweek and they wouldn’t be human if one eye wasn’t on their crucial Champions League clash with Valencia on Tuesday. John Terry served his suspension in the Carling Cup in midweek so he will return to the side here while Daniel Sturridge is hoping to continue to catch the eye.
Chelsea have been a bit of a shambles at the back this season whereas Newcastle are defending fantastically at the minute and if those trends continue the hosts would have every chance in this match. Andres Villas-Boas is a man under pressure at the minute and with the emotion of the day and the 52,000 Geordies shouting them on I think Newcastle could well claim all three points here.
