Liverpool vs Brighton Betting: Brighton could surprise Liverpool if the Reds are more focused on Carling Cup final
The final match of the fifth round of the FA Cup this weekend comes from Anfield as Liverpool welcome Championship side Brighton to their home ground to do battle for a place in the quarter final. With Arsenal falling by the way side on Saturday and Chelsea requiring a replay suddenly this FA Cup is there to be won. Liverpool are 1/4 favourites to win this match with William Hill but Brighton will fancy their chances.
The signs are that Liverpool could play a weaker side than usual with the Carling Cup final coming up next weekend. Maxi Rodriguez is in line for a start but with Dalglish having played a pretty strong side in the third round against Oldham I don’t expect this side to be too weak. Young full backs John Flanagan and Jack Robinson could start while Andy Carroll could get another chance to prove himself ahead of the cup final next weekend.
Brighton have nothing to lose in this match. They come into the game in decent form having not lost in all competitions since the turn of the year and are primed for a promotion push in the closing stages of the season. Gus Poyet will be able to call upon Will Buckley in this match after he has recovered from injury and on loan Manchester City pair Gai Assulin and Abdul Razak are in line to make their debuts for the club.
These two met in the Carling Cup at the Amex Stadium earlier in the season and Liverpool narrowly won on that occasion but I think Brighton might be worth a little dabble here at what is a ridiculous 14/1. Liverpool have been the subject of plenty of criticism in the last week after the Suarez shenanigans against Manchester United last weekend and the extra burden of expectancy to win could be too much. Their home form in the Premier League isn’t as good as it should be for a side of their stature and with nothing to lose, an attacking philosophy and a potentially weaker Liverpool side than normal the Seagulls could just fly into the quarter final here.
