Jones vs Artut Betting: Jyhan Artut can take advantage of good draw in Minehead
The UK Masters first round will be played out in full across two sessions on Friday at the Butlins resort in Minehead and one of the matches in the evening session is between Wayne Jones and Jyhan Artut. Artut qualified for this tournament the night before he and partner Andree Welge made the quarter finals of the World Cup. Wayne Jones is the established member of the PDC top 32 and he’s the 4/7 favourite with Bet365.
Wayne Jones has gone off the boil bigtime in recent months. We saw him look a bit of a shambles in the World Championship when he went down to Jerry Hendriks without a lot of fight and apart from a decent run in a European Tour event in Holland last year he hasn’t been beyond the last 16 of any PDC tournament since October 2011 which is very poor for someone as good as he is.
Jyhan Artut has never really broken through like many expected him to. He burst onto the scene by beating Wayne Mardle in the World Championship a few years ago and then I’m sure most people remember his excellent first round match in the same tournament against Gary Anderson in 2011 where he blew darts to beat Anderson but we’re still waiting for a big breakthrough from the German. There’s no doubt he’s capable though as he scores as well as anyone.
I think Artut has every chance here. Even when Jones is on form he’s only really a solid ton scorer but the days where tons get you places have long gone at the elite level. Neither player went all that well at the UK Open qualifiers last weekend but at least Artut has been more active in recent times having had the World Cup to prepare for and play in. He looked decent enough in that tournament and he looks a fair price to win this match.
Back J.Artut to beat W.Jones for a 3/10 stake at 2.50 with William Hill
