Grand Slam of Darts Betting Guide
The Grand Slam of Darts is currently the only major darts event which pits together players from the BDO and the PDC in the same competition. The winners and runners up of all the major BDO and PDC competitions over the previous 2 years get invited into this tournament. The event is made up with semi finalists from both world championships.
The Daily Mirror are the current sponsors of this tournament which takes place every November from the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. This tournament was introduced to the calendar in 2007 with Phil Taylor winning the title for the first three years. Scott Waites is the current champion after he beat James Wade in the 2010 final to become the first player from the BDO to win the tournament.
The format for this event adds a new element to betting as the 32 players are split into groups of 4. All 4 players play each other once with the top two progressing to the last 16. Group matches are only best of 9 legs so there is the potential for a lot of shocks and surprises. There is often good value to be had on picking the winners of the groups too.
Whoever wins this tournament can lay claim to being the closest thing darts has to an ‘overall champion’ so this is a fairly big tournament. The 2012 tournament produced an immensely popular winner with Raymond Van Barneveld notching an overdue major win by beating fellow countryman Michael Van Gerwen.
