The race itself only attracts a select bunch each year so big fields are rare, yet it never fails to deliver a compelling spectacle and produce a worthy champion.

2011 winner Sizing Europe came back in 2012 for another crack at the Queen Mother Champion Chase but was a beaten odds on favourite to Nicky Henderson's Finians Rainbow, and Henderson was to enjoy success again in 2013 with Sprinter Sacre completing a faultless round of jumping.

In 2014 Sire De Grugy took advantage of Sprinter Sacre's absence through injury and won the race for trainer Gary Moore. The following year Paul Nicholls landed his fourth victory in the race when Dodging Bullets was successful at 4/1. In 2016 we saw a tremendous comeback by Sprinter Scare in what was one of the most emotional winning enclosures seen at Cheltenham.
