Carter vs Jones Betting: Ali Carter's experience of the format can give him the advantage over Jones
Ali Carter came through one of the matches of the year in the second round of the World Championship to book his place in the quarter final of the tournament where he comes up against the Welsh Warrior, Jamie Jones over the best of 25 frames in a match which begins on Tuesday afternoon at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Carter goes into the match as the 4/11 favourite with Boylesports.
Carter found himself 12-9 down to Judd Trump in the previous round and his opponent’s good run of the ball was clearly infuriating him but he put all of that to the back of his mind to produce a four frame burst to edge out last year’s runner up 13-12. That came after he controlled his first round match against Mark Davis from start to finish. Carter is scoring very well but he has a lot of fight and clearly wants it this week.
Jamie Jones has been a revelation in the tournament so far with three breaks of over 130 so far and some really fluent, attacking and positive snooker. However there were just signs towards the end of his match against Andrew Higginson in the last round that the event was beginning to catch up with him and perhaps he realised the magnitude of what he is achieving. If he plays like he did in the first two sessions of that match he’ll be dangerous. He can’t afford to play like he did in the final one though.
Ali Carter has the bit between his teeth at the minute and knowing he needs a good tournament to keep his top 16 place for next season that is sure to spur him on. I wonder if Jones has three more intense sessions in him against someone with the class and quality of Ali Carter and that could be the difference. Carter has been the course and distance in this event but the length of the tournament could just be catching up with Jones and I fancy Carter here.
