York vs Mansfield Betting: Bootham Crescent can be treated to a few goals in playoff semi first leg
They say getting promoted via the playoffs is the best way of going up but that is no consolation during the three matches it takes to win the playoffs as York and Mansfield fans are set to find out on Wednesday night when they meet in the first leg of their Blue Square Premier playoff semi final at Bootham Crescent. Both sides have been league sides in the past and are dreaming of getting back there.
York come into this first leg as the 11/8 favourites with Betfred to secure an advantage to take to Field Mill on Monday which is surprising given that they are the joint outsiders to win the playoffs. Experience could be vital and they still have a few players who lost in the promotion final at Wembley in 2010. They also have a Wembley winner in their ranks too with Jason Walker a winner there with Barrow earlier in his career.
Mansfield haven’t been in this position in the playoffs for a while but they will be able to look back at a trip to Wembley themselves last season when they lost to Darlington in the FA Trophy final. That could stand them in good stead were they to win this semi final and in order to do that you feel Matt Green will be their star man and carry the biggest threat to the York defence.
Mansfield come into this match in exceptional form having won 13 of their last 15 matches and only losing one of them but form goes out of the window when the playoffs come around. This will be a keenly fought match and one which I think will contain a few goals because both defences have been guilty in the past of being open and both sides have some good attacking players both out wide and through the middle. 17/20 look more than fair odds for two sides who like scoring goals to produce at least three between in this match.
