Cricket World Cup betting: Kenya to trouble New Zealand in Chennai

The early match in the ICC World Cup on Sunday sees New Zealand and Kenya opening their tournament with a match against each other at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Both sides played a couple of warm up matches prior to this tournament but all the pressure will be on New Zealand here in what could be a tricky test with their fragile confidence.

The Chennai ground is a fantastic ground for the batsmen and I don’t expect that to be any different in this match. The boundaries are quite short and the outfield will be quick so on a good pitch the batsmen should be looking to tot up a big total on this ground. For the bowlers it’s a case of varying the pace as much as possible and hoping you are backed up well in the field.

New Zealand will be without their 2nd spinner Nathan McCullum for this match. McCullum has been in hospital for the last couple of days being treated for a fever so he could well be replaced in the side with the backup spinner Luke Woodcock. Kenya have no major injury concerns coming into this match. All eyes as ever with the Kenyan’s will be on experienced batsman Steve Tikolo to see if he can provide the runs to make Kenya competitive.

I think Kenya will be competitive in this match purely because they are playing a New Zealand side low on pressure who simply have to win here. There’s no raw pace or extreme spin in this New Zealand attack to cause them major distress on this wicket. New Zealand have a good batting line up but it’s not in totally good form at the minute. Ireland stayed within 30 runs of New Zealand and took 6 wickets in the warm up and Kenya probably have a better bowling attack than Ireland so on what is a big handicap with Sportingbet, although I think the Kenyan’s will ultimately lose this match I think they’ll be competitive enough to stay within the handicap.

Back Kenya (+6.5 wickets/75.5runs) to beat New Zealand for a 3/10 stake at 1.83 with Sportingbet
