Barneveld vs Klaasen Betting: Raymond Barneveld can start his charge for a third UK Open with Klaasen win
The penultimate match on the main stage at the Reebok Stadium in the Speedy Services UK Open on Friday night is an all Dutch battle and a repeat of the 2006 Lakeside World Championship final as Raymond Barneveld plays Jelle Klassen in the last 64 of the competition. Klaasen won that final at Frimley Green back in 2006 but has lost the last seven meetings between the two. He is 4/1 with Boylesports to end that slump in this match.
Raymond Barneveld comes into this tournament as the number one seed. Of course that means nothing now we are underway because it is an open draw but it does mean he was the best player in the qualifying series which shows the potential the five times world champion still has. Barneveld also showed that potential in the Premier League where he played some superb darts but a stack of draws cost him a playoff place.
Jelle Klaasen has slumped a bit in his game in the last year or two. I guess his ultra quick style was always going to make him erratic and inconsistent but to have only made one quarter final of any PDC event since the UK Open last year is very poor for someone who has the talent he has. Klaasen came through against Dyson Parody on the opening night so he has at least won a pressure match this week.
I would be surprised if Klaasen plays well enough for long enough to beat Barneveld. Klaasen’s strength is his scoring but that’s Barney’s strength too and I don’t expect Barneveld to miss the sort of doubles Klaasen has the potential to miss. On all known form over the last 6 months at least then this should be a comfortable win for Barneveld. I don’t think he’ll win it massively easy but I do think he’ll win it easily enough to cover the handicap.
Back R.Barneveld (-3.5 legs) to beat J.Klaasen for a 4/10 stake at 1.91 with Paddy Power
