Baltimore @ New England Betting: Ravens can remain within a touchdown of New England in Championship game

Sunday night sees the two NFL Championship games being played and at the end of the night we will know the names of the two sides going forward to Indianapolis in two weeks time to compete in the Super Bowl. It is the turn of the AFC Championship game first and that comes from the Gillette Stadium as New England Patriots take on Baltimore Ravens. The Patriots are a top price of 1/3 with Paddy Power to make the Super Bowl.

The Patriots came into the playoff series as the number one seeds in the AFC and this match will be all about how Tom Brady can do against the strong defence of the Ravens. It will be down to Brady too because New England are unlikely to be able to run on the Ravens. Brady has two excellent options at tight end in Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez but it is Wes Welker and Deion Branch who could be most dangerous.

Baltimore Ravens will have to put points on the board in this match because as good as their defence is I just don’t see them shutting Brady and his potent offense out completely. That means Joe Flacco will have to silence the doubters and not only perform to his best on the road but also in a critical game, something he hasn’t really done consistently in his career to date.

We’ve got the age old battle of offence against defence in this match and the general saying is defences win championships. If that’s the case the Ravens will win here but I’m always dubious about taking them on the road because of Flacco’s record away from home. I do think this will be close though even if New England win so I’ll take the safety first option of backing the Ravens on the handicap.
