World Championship Snooker Betting: Ronnie O'Sullivan as short as 6/1 to win world title after Berlin win
Ronnie O’Sullivan is into as short as 6/1 with Boylesports to win the World Championship in May after he was crowned the German Masters champion in Berlin on Sunday night, his first full ranking event title since the Shanghai Masters in 2009. O’Sullivan came from behind to beat Stephen Maguire in what was a thrilling final enjoyed by a packed crowd of over 2500 people inside the Tempodrom, a venue O’Sullivan called ‘the best they play in now’.
Ronnie O’Sullivan took the first frame of his final against Maguire with a century break but that was only the beginning of the fireworks as Maguire levelled with a century of his own. Just when watchers were beginning to think it could get no better than that it did as Stephen Maguire took the next two frames, both with centuries, to take a 3-1 lead at the interval with all four frames won with centuries. He extended that lead to 5-3 at the end of the first session.
Maguire won the first frame after the resumption to lead 6-3 but that shook the Rocket into action and he barely missed a ball for five frames, winning all five to take an 8-6 lead. Maguire pulled a frame back by taking frame 15 with a stunning clearance after O’Sullivan missed a black to let him in but Ronnie closed it out in the next frame as he claimed the elusive title.
Stephen Maguire more than played his part in Germany and he will progress to the World Championship at the end of the season in good heart. He’s a 28/1 shot for the tournament with Totesport while the sport’s newest sensation Judd Trump is widely acknowledged as the favourite for the marathon event. Last year’s runner up can be backed at a best price of 11/2 with Stan James.
