Women's 800m Freestyle Betting: Lotte Friis looks good value to deny Rebecca Adlington of her magic moment

Friday night is the night the whole of Great Britain have been waiting for at the Aquatics Centre as it is the night in which their golden girl of the pool Rebecca Adlington defends her Olympic Women’s 800m freestyle title. Adlington isn’t just the Olympic champion she is the world champion at this distance too and will go into Friday night’s final as a 1/2 favourite with Stan James.

If you look throughout this discipline over the last couple of years it is safe to say that this final should be a two horse race. I respect Katie Ledecky of the USA but I would imagine she will be swimming for bronze in this final. I would be very surprised if any other swimmer in this 800m final gets between or past Rebecca Adlington and Denmark’s Lotte Friis.

In the semi finals the two swam in separate heats and there was just over a tenth of a second between them and I wouldn’t say Adlington was completely at ease throughout the whole of the swim. She certainly gave it some down the final two lengths to get the crowd going and that might be a concern that she was only a tenth ahead. It is easy to say that she took it easy but I’m not so sure she did.

One thing which nobody can argue with is the fact that Adlington has a serious weight of expectation on her in this final and that could act as a burden but equally the huge crowd expected in the Aquatics Centre could spur her on to glory. Either way I don’t see the value there at 1/2 and feel in a two horse race with very little between the two in their semi finals the value lies solely with the Danish lady at 2/1.
