Women's 400m Betting: Antonina Krivoshapka looks the value call to pip Richards-Ross in the women's 400m
Great Britain’s sole athletics defending gold medallist gets the defence of her title underway on Friday when Christine Ohuruogu goes for glory in the women’s 400 metres in the morning session. Since she won Olympic gold Ohuruogu has had an injury plagued few years but in the run up to these games she has been getting quicker and quicker and will begin the competition 8/1 with Betfred to retain her title.
The favourite for the title is USA’s Sanya Richards-Ross and if Christine Ohuruogu shows the form she did in Beijing then we will have the classic clash in styles between Richards-Ross who goes out fast over the first 200 and looks to almost limp over the line and Ohuruogu who goes steady over the first 200m and then comes home like a train. In Beijing the fast finishing style won so it will be interesting to see which style wins in London.
It would be folly to suggest this competition is between two women though. One lady who will definitely have something to say about that is world champion Amantle Montsho from Botswana. She has been running well all year and will expect to be very competitive in this competition. The fastest woman in the world this year is actually world bronze medallist Antonina Krivoshapka of Russia and she is another who is likely to go well.
I think this will be a really strong competition this year. I’m not convinced about Sanya Richards-Ross, I never am really as I think in competition racing she sets herself up to be shot at with her gung ho approach. I would expect Christine Ohuruogu to improve and find the extra second she needs on her season’s best to be competitive. The three rounds in this competition will really benefit her but at 6/1 Krivoshapka looks the value to me. She has two of the fastest five times recorded this year and can pip Richards-Ross to the gold.
Given how well Ohuruogu goes in competition athletics the 5/2 about her winning a medal looks attractive too. She really does know how to race in competitions as she showed when she won the gold four years ago. She may not be at her best so far this season but she has run her fastest two races in her last two outings so she is moving in the right direction and with the competitive juices flowing she can win a medal.
