Women's 200m Betting: Sanya Richards-Ross is running consistently enough to win a second medal at these games
The Women’s 200 metres kicks off in the Olympic Stadium on Monday evening with all eyes on Allyson Felix as she looks to go one better than she did in Beijing four years ago and win 200m gold. The contenders for this title come in plentiful supply so this promises to be a very strong event throughout on what is a quick track inside the stadium. If the betting is anything to go by Felix is going to win gold as she is 1/2 with Bet365.
Felix is a very strong 200m runner but she hasn’t won a global medal since Berlin in 2009 as she could only get the bronze in Daegu last year. She comes into the competition as the only woman to run under 22 seconds this year and on the best times has almost half a second advantage which is significant enough to make her a worthy favourite.
The race in behind her could be very interesting though as silver and bronze are very much up for grabs. There is the potential for a USA 1-2-3 in this event with Carmelita Jeter and Sanya Richards-Ross both in the field and both strong in this event. Trying to deny USA the sweep of medals are the Jamaican pair of Veronica Campbell-Brown and Shirley-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the 100m gold medallist.
Sanya Richards-Ross has had an excellent year in the 200m. She has run 22.22 seconds or quicker three times this year which is more than any other athlete so she is extremely consistent. We saw in the 400m which she won earlier in the meeting that she pushes out very quickly in the opening 200m of that event and she’ll be even quicker here. Whether her legs will be fresh after the 400m remains to be seen but all the other contenders have had the 100m competition so she shouldn’t be too disadvantaged and if she is fresh I think Richards-Ross is a good bet for a medal.
