Wimbledon 2012 Betting: The women's part of the draw might have a surprising winner

Alright, so Novak Djokovic is the main favourite in the men's part of the draw, but what about the women? In my opinion, there just are not any real favourites this year. You might obviously want to back Maria Sharapova (Pinnacle are offering 3.50 for her victory at the moment), but I am not really sure that she deserves so much respect. Don't get me wrong - she has been above the rest of the competition for quite some time now, but she is going to be under a lot of pressure and her draw has a few pitfalls. Tsvetana Pironkova in the second round? Monica Niculescu (her unorthodox style can drive Sharapova crazy) in the third round? Well, that looks quite tricky to me.

Petra Kvitova and Serena Williams are right behind the Russian in terms of odds, but can you really see them winning the title this year? Petra Kvitova has done nothing special recently and her last week's performance suggests that she is far from her standard at the moment, while I simply cannot back Serena Williams after that incredible upset in Paris, especially since she might still be carrying an injury.

Wimbledon is a place where dreams come true and I would not be surprised by seeing someone new taking the throne this year. There are plenty of options - Viktoria Azarenka might want to have a say, Tamira Paszek will be full of confidence after that unbelievable comeback in Eastbourne and Dominika Cibulkova can do some damage on grass as well - the list goes on forever. Grass is a very tricky surface and, with the big three overrated, there should be some value in this selection.
