Williams vs Ebdon Betting: Peter Ebdon can use the advantage of playing earlier in the day to full effect
One of the better matches on the opening day of the Six Red World Championship out in Bangkok on Monday is the one between two former world champions of the 15 red game when Mark Williams plays Peter Ebdon in a crucial Group C match. Group C is quite open with some good players in it so the winner of this best of seven frame match will launch themselves into qualification contention.
Mark Williams will be playing his first match of the tournament here and he goes into it as an 8/15 favourite with Bet365. He comes into the tournament of the back of a quarter final spot in the Wuxi Classic last week but when you analyse his form a bit deeper he didn’t play well there at all and given that he hasn’t entered the Australia Open next week you sense his season hasn’t really begun just yet.
Peter Ebdon lost in the first round out in China last week but he lost to the eventual runner up Stuart Bingham and there was no harm in that. In many ways that might have helped him ahead of this week where he has been able to get to Thailand on a reasonable schedule to prepare ahead of the tournament. Ebdon is very astute and even with just six reds on the table he will still be dangerous.
Playing Ken Doherty earlier in the day will give Ebdon a clear advantage in this match for me. He will have the pace of the table known and he should be able to get straight down to work whereas it could take Williams a frame or two to get going and in a best of seven you’ve just not got that chance. Given how well Williams played last week he might need a month to get going here not just a frame or two so with Ebdon having the playing earlier advantage and him playing better last week I think he’s worth a go at 6/4.
