Warrington vs St Helens Betting: St Helens can stay within 10pts of Warrington in playoff showdown
Warrington and St Helens will both be looking for next week off when they meet in the first week of the playoffs at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday evening. Warrington were second in the Super League table while St Helens were third and if the season is anything to go by there isn’t a lot between the two sides. Warrington go into the match as the 4/11 favourites though. That is with Paddy Power.
Warrington come into this match safe in the knowledge they already have one trophy in the bag this season having won the Challenge Cup. Because of that Challenge Cup win they didn’t get the week off that everyone else got three weeks ago. They did have the luxury of resting players at Widnes last week and Brett Hodgson, Joel Monaghan, Michael Monaghan, Garreth Carvell and Trent Waterhouse will all return here. Stefan Ratchford is fit to return too.
St Helens know how to play playoff football. They have made it to the last seven Grand Finals although they’ll know only too well that they have lost the last six. Michael Shenton will be out for St Helens. He has a thumb injury so Gary Wheeler will replace him. Sia Soliola was rested for the win over Wigan last week as a precaution but he is fit to play in this match. Chris Flannery remains sidelined though.
I like St Helens in this match. I’m always a sucker for St Helens but they know how to raise it for the big occasion and Warrington have a history of falling apart in the crunch playoff games. This isn’t a crunch playoff match but these two met at this stage two years ago and St Helens won and they’ve already won at the Halliwell Jones in the league this season too. It’s playoff footy though and second chance footy at that so I’ll air on the side of caution and take St Helens with a ridiculously big looking 10pt head start in this match.
