Wade vs Burnett Betting: Richie Burnett looks to be good value to hit the most 180's
James Wade loves the World Matchplay and he begins his tilt for a second Matchplay title on Sunday night when he takes on Richie Burnett at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Richie Burnett is a former finalist in this competition back in 2001 so he knows what it is like to enjoy success at Blackpool too which makes this an intriguing contest. Wade goes into the match as the 4/11 favourite with Blue Square.
James Wade always seems to produce his best darts in this tournament and I think the format suits him well. Not only has he won the tournament but he’s made the final two more times including last year, where he lost to Phil Taylor on both occasions so he has very good memories in this tournament. Having qualified for the Premier League semi finals and gone well in a couple of European Tour events Wade arrives here in good form.
Richie Burnett had a few years away from the top echelons of the game but he’s very much back there now. In one match in the European Tour event in Dusseldorf a couple of weeks ago he recorded a match average of over 120 in a match against Andy Jenkins and that signifies both the sort of form the Welshman is capable of and indeed the sort of form he is currently in.
If Richie Burnett turns up with a 120 average in this match then James Wade is in danger. You would have to say a repeat of that average is unlikely but nevertheless there’s no reason why Burnett won’t play well. Wade loves Blackpool though and he’ll be extra confident and I think he’ll just about edge this one courtesy of his much better finishing. I think the bookmakers have the prices for this match about right but I’m not so sure they do about the most 180’s where Richie Burnett is 6/4 despite being much the heavier 180 scorer. James Wade isn’t really known as a strong scorer although he does hit a lot of 140’s. Burnett ploughs in the 180’s and that 6/4 looks very good value to me.
