USPGA Championship Betting: Graeme McDowell can be the best of the British and Irish challengers
As always when there is a major golf tournament on the horizon there are hundreds of markets priced up and one of the side markets which interests me this week is the ‘Top GB & Ireland Player’ market. British and Irish golf is very much in the ascendancy at the minute and I expect a strong showing from golfers from the British and emerald isles. World number one Luke Donald is the 4/1 favourite with BetVictor to win this market.
Luke Donald showed in The Open that he has what it takes to feature in a major but whether it will be this one with the length of the course is open to debate. However in this market there aren’t many insanely heavy hitters which could given the consistent Donald a chance. Of course he’ll be severely tested by other top notch players in Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy, both of whom are no strangers to being at the business end of a major championship.
One man who probably does have the sufficient length required to make this course a little bit easier is Justin Rose and I wouldn’t put anyone off the man who has had an excellent 12 months, especially with the Ryder Cup on the horizon and spots up for grabs and markers to be laid down for that particular tournament.
However one man has served me well recently and that man is Graeme McDowell and I’m not going to desert him here. I was on him to be the top Irishman in The Open and he delivered and I think he could deliver here too. He is very good on coastal courses. We know all about his links background but we need to remember he won the US Open at Pebble Beach which isn’t too dissimilar to this in terms of proximity to the coast. Gmac loves nothing more than shaping shots into the wind and with his major record so good this year I think McDowell can lead home the British and Irish charge.
