UKPTC2 Betting: Mark Williams can go a couple of steps further than in the first UKPTC and win the title
The stars of the snooker world descend on Gloucester again this weekend for the second UKPTC tournament of the season. Stephen Maguire won the first of the UKPTC tournaments last month and he is 20/1 to win this second event with Skybet. This tournament sees the beginning of John Higgins’ season while a few of the other top names who missed the first tournament have entered which should make for some excellent snooker.
The format for this tournament is the same as it has been since the PTC’s were invented. All the matches are the best of seven frames with 128 players playing for the title over the three days. Competition can be a bit manic on the opening two days with so many matches being played but I think all the pros are used to it now so I would expect a fairly big name winner.
Earlier in the season we have seen the likes of Shaun Murphy, Stephen Lee and Mark Selby playing well and all would appear to have strong chances this week although the appearance of the likes of Neil Robertson, Mark Allen and John Higgins makes this a much more competitive event than the first tournament was a few weeks ago. There is still no Ronnie O’Sullivan although the signs are that he will be back soon.
The man I like this week is Mark Williams. Williams made it to the semi final of the first UKPTC and was a quarter finalist in the Wuxi Classic prior to that so he has begun the season fairly well and I think we’ll see a really good season out of Williams this year. When he’s on form he’s lovely to watch and he’s got a relatively simple draw through to finals day in this tournament. Mark Selby will need to be disposed of in the last 16 but that’s still winnable and at 14/1 the Welshman looks a fair pick for me this weekend.
Back M.Williams to win UKPTC2 (e/w) for a 2/10 stake at 15.00 with Skybet (1/4 1-4)
