Reasoning
The first round of the League Cup is being played over four days, beginning last Saturday and ending on Tuesday night, but this is the only one of the three on offer on Monday night that has interested me enough to have a small play.
Sheffield Wednesday were promoted from League One last season and did win their two recent visits to Boundary Park and they have made enough signings to their squad to think they will be a little too strong for Oldham again.
It is unlikely that Dave Jones will play a 'second string' team considering he will see this as a good chance for his first teamers to work in some match fitness ahead of the Championship start on Saturday and I think they have a definite edge in terms of quality that was already shown by the 39 point gap between the teams last season.
There shouldn't be too much for the players to get used to the surroundings having played here in the last two seasons and they look a decent shout at odds against to progress to yet another second round in a bid to break the 'glass ceiling'.
It is the League Cup so surprise results are the norm, but I am hoping to avoid one in this one and the odds against quote on the away side looks decent enough to me.
