Reasoning
The Toronto Blue Jays will head to Safeco Field to close this 3-game series against the Seattle Mariners after losing the first two, 1-4 and 2-7. The Blue Jays are now just 51-52, bottom of the AL East but still just 5.5 games of the 2nd place Orioles. Their form is going the wrong way and now more then ever is the time for some other players to step up and compensate for the losses of Lind, Bautista and Arancibia who got out of the line-up late in July. For this one they will have one of their best on the mound, righty Carlos Villanueva (6-0, 2.92 ERA) who has done a very good job in the bullpen as well as a starter, now with 4 straight wins and 5 straight outings with 3 or less ER give up. Seattle, even farther from .500, 49-57, bottom of the AL West, changing something lately and running on their longest winning streak this season (6 in a row). For this one they will have right-hander Blake Beavan (6-6, 5.20 ERA) who has 3 straight wins (after losing 2 in a row), with 2 last outings when he kept the offense to only 1 run, that after giving up at least 5 in the previous 4. Yes the offense has been down struggling lately with those big names out of the line-up but with Villanueva on the mound, they have a winning chance in this one, even more against Beavan who has a career ERA of 6.75 against the Jays. So clear win for Toronto is my choice in this one, hopefully with the Jays starter putting up an outing with ER close to 0.
