Super Bowl XLVI Betting: Eli Manning can cover his passing yards line in Indianapolis

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events of the year and that is highlighted in a betting sense by there being well over 400 markets priced up on Sunday’s game between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants. Almost every single player who is expected to compete in the Super Bowl has a market priced up about their total yards, catches or tackles depending on which position on the field they play.

Betting on player performance lines is always a good way to enjoy the Super Bowl as your bet will last you the entire four quarters, unless it has already won by then so let’s look at some of the best ones. If New York Giants are to win the Super Bowl they will have to do a lot of their scoring through the air and that puts a real responsibility on their Quarterback Eli Manning. Manning has been in excellent form for a while now and the 308.5 yards passing line looks very low to me. Joe Flacco, a second rate Quarterback threw for 306 yards in a largely winning effort against New England last time out so I expect Eli to cover that.

Offensively for New England this season it has been all about their Tight Ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. The former comes into the Super Bowl under a bit of an injury cloud so the latter could well find himself making a lot more plays. With that in mind I think the 66.5 yard receiving line over Hernandez is another line which looks a little on the low side.

Finally, going back to the Giants, Hakeem Nicks, their Wide Receiver, has been busy this post season. He caught 6 passes against Atlanta, 7 at Green Bay and 5 at San Francisco in a match where Victor Cruz ran riot else he would have seen a lot more action. His receptions line in the Super Bowl is 5.5 and with the Giants doing most of their offensive plays through the air I think that’s a bit too low for one of Eli Manning’s favourite targets.
