State of Origin Game 3 Betting: New South Wales can take advantage of Slater's absence to seal rare Origin series win
The 2012 State of Origin Series has gone to a third and deciding match with the series level at 1-1 so everything is on the line when Queensland and New South Wales meet for the final time to settle the series at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Wednesday. The Blues levelled up the series with a thrilling win in Sydney last month but with home advantage Queensland will be looking to seal the series.
Queensland having home advantage makes them an 8/13 favourite for this decider with Paddy Power but they will have to win the series without Billy Slater, universally regarded as the best full back in the game so that will be a real blow. Greg Inglis looks set to replace the injured Slater at full back with Dane Neilson coming in at centre. Somewhat surprisingly David Taylor hasn’t been named in the 17 at all.
New South Wales have pulled a selection surprise of their own with the news that there will be no Akuila Uate for this decider. That’s a surprise as he has the ability to score tries from anywhere but Brett Morris, his replacement, is very experienced which could have given him the nod. Tony Williams comes onto the interchange bench while Beau Scott replaces Glenn Stewart in the second row. You feel if the Blues are to win this then Todd Carney will have to play well.
This is all set up to be an absolute classic and if the New South Wales forwards can compete with the intensity they showed in Sydney then I think the Blues can win this. Billy Slater is a huge loss both defensively but more importantly in the attacking areas of the field and with the likes of Brett Stewart and Michael Jennings in excellent form coupled with the likes of Paul Gallen and Robbie Farah I think New South Wales can claim their first Origin series win since 2005.
