Sri Lanka Premier League Betting: The Kandurata Warriors look to have the balance in their squad to win first SLPL

The inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League begins on Saturday with the major action in the tournament being screened live on ESPN in the UK. The tournament lasts just over two weeks and features some of the best and biggest names in the world of cricket. In total there are seven teams in the tournament, each of whom play each other once with the top four at the end of the round of matches playing the semi finals before the final.

Wayamba United have been the dominant force in domestic Sri Lankan T20 cricket in recent years and they are the 4/1 favourites for this tournament with Skybet  Wayamba will be led by Mahela Jayawardene and they have the Pakistan trio of Azhar Mahmood, Abdul Razzaq and Umar Akmal in their squad for this tournament. They had the blow that Chaminda Vaas misses the tournament through injury but there’s enough bowling in their squad to cope with that.

Other teams worthy of a mention with regards to potential winners are Basnahira Cricket Dundee. They will be led by Tillekeratne Dilshan and have a number of good Australians as overseas players while the Ruhuna Royals, led by the deadly Lasith Malinga look like they will go well too. As well as Malinga the Royals have the big hitting Richard Levi so they look well equipped for a good title charge.

The other four teams in the competition are Uva Next, Nagenahira Nagas, Uthura Rudra and the Kandurata Warriors and it is the latter that I like from an outright point of view. The Warriors will be led by Kumar Sangakkara and have Johan Botha and Saeed Ajmal as overseas players who should both go well on Sri Lankan wickets. Albie Morkel and Thissara Perera can provide the biffing the team needs as can Sanath Jayasuriya who is out of retirement for this tournament. With Sri Lankan internationals Paranavitana and Samaraweera in the squad too they have a good balance of home and overseas players and could well be the ones to win the inaugural tournament at 5/1.
