Spain vs Italy Betting: Riccardo Montolivo looks a big price to open the scoring in Euro 2012 final
The first goalscorer market for Sunday’s Euro 2012 final will be a popular market with even the lesser gamblers chancing their arm for interest in one of the biggest matches of the season. With Spain and Italy in the final there is no shortage of potential players to open the scoring on the night. Amazingly enough no goalscorer is actually a 6/1 favourite with Stan James going into the match.
If Spain score first the betting market suggests that Fernando Torres will be the man to score it as he is the shortest priced Spaniard in the betting. He is 8/1, the same price as his teammate and fellow forward Alvaro Negredo. Cesc Fabregas has been playing in the false nine position a fair bit in this tournament and he scored Spain’s goal in the reverse fixture so he is sure to attract plenty of support.
If you think Italy will score first then the chances are it will be Mario Balotelli if the betting is anything to go by. The Manchester City striker who scored twice in the semi final to bring Italy through to this final is the shortest priced Italian, just ahead of Antonio Cassano and Antonio di Natale. Di Natale was the man who scored Italy’s opener against Spain in their first meeting in the tournament.
However with all the likelihood of a tight match in store it could pay to go with someone at a bigger price. Defenders aren’t going to let strikers get much space and the build up will be quite slow but an unexpected midfield runner could escape the net and ghost in and open the scoring. That’s what I’m hoping anyway as the 25/1 price about Riccardo Montolivo looks very big. He got into some good positions against both England and Germany before misfiring but eventually his radar will be good and when it is I expect him to notch. He looks a big price for a midfielder who gets into the box especially with the unlimited each way terms.
