Snooker Shootout Betting Guide
Snooker’s newest and most exciting event is the Shootout which takes place at the Blackpool Tower in January. This event, which is played out in full in one weekend and is broadcast live on Sky sees the top 64 in the world involved in a unique format. All matches in this competition are the best of one frame and in a further twist, each match has a maximum 10 minute time limit.
As part of the process of making snooker more appealing this event has a number of unusual rules. Along with the time limit of each match, the shot clock will be in operation. Players have 20 seconds per shot for the opening 5 minutes and 15 seconds for the last 5 minutes. Perhaps the two biggest rule changes are that fouls are rewarded with cue ball in hand, meaning the white can be placed anywhere and also that a ball must be potted or hit a cushion every shot.
In matches of one frame it’s unlikely that usual snooker betting is a worthwhile proposition in this tournament and I would imagine the majority of betting in this tournament will be focused on the outright market. There’s no form to go by and no reliable stats so this tournament is likely to be a quiet one for the serious punter.
With the changes in place in the rules this tournament looks likely to be exciting. The aim is for it to be fast and furious but competitive at the same time, and the competition certainly delivers on all of those fronts.
