Six Red World Championship Betting: Ken Doherty looks the value call in wide open Group C
Another of the groups I like the look of at the Six Red World Championship out in Bangkok is Group C which is headed by Mark Williams. Joining Williams in this group are Peter Ebdon, Ken Doherty, Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon, Aditya Mehta and the amateur from China Li Hang. The six players will all play each other once to decide who goes into the knockout stages and Mark Williams is the 6/4 favourite for the group with Skybet.
I’m not so sure about Williams myself. He was nowhere near his best in the Wuxi Classic in China last week and in the quarter final against Marcus Campbell which he went out in he was absolutely atrocious. He has never really struck me as someone who gives a lot of attention to these quirky formatted invitation events and I think he will be worth taking on in this group. It’s just a case of who with.
This is a trappy little group and could be one of those won with three wins as you can see a fair bit of everyone beating everyone going on. I’ll just about pass over Mehta and Li Hang but not without respecting them first. Instead I’ll focus around Peter Ebdon, Ken Doherty and Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon. Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon will be buoyed by being at home but I’m not sure he has the consistency for this group while Peter Ebdon doesn’t tend to get on too well with format changes.
I think Ken Doherty will embrace this competition and he showed in China last week that he’s playing some pretty decent snooker. He was unlucky to go out to Stuart Bingham in a deciding frame out there but in this format where dishing up when the chance comes along and keeping things tight are the name of the game I think the Dubliner can go well. At 5/1 I think he’s decent value to come through what I think is a wide open group.
