Shanghai Masters Betting Guide
The Shanghai Rolex Masters, which is played on outdoor hard courts, is one of the tournaments that belongs to the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 series. Shanghai was previously the home of the Tennis Masters Cup, but the season-ending event (now known as the ATP World Tour Finals) has been moved to London.
The event is played in the Qi Zhong Forest Sports City Arena, which is one of the top tennis arenas in Asia. The arena uses the popular DecoTurf surface, which is also used in the US Open and other American events.
The Shanghai Rolex Masters is pretty much the only really important tournament in that part of the world. As a result, it attracts a huge number of spectators. However, they are usually not blessed with any local players to support. Surprisingly, China has almost no representation on the ATP circuit (although they have some solid players on the WTA circuit).
Andy Murray has enjoyed considerable success in this event, winning two of the four tournaments that have been played so far in this fledgling event. Murray was chasing a 3rd successive title in this event in 2012, but lost out to Novak Djokovic over a marathon 3-set match that lasted almost 3 and a half hours. In winning this title, Djokovic became the first player to have won 7 of the current ATP Masters 1000 titles.
Betting fans should know that the “Asian Swing” (to which this tournament belongs) can be quite strange. Some players ignore the minor tournaments and concentrate only on this event, while some go the opposite way. Strange results happen quite regularly and it is important to stake accordingly, especially during the smaller tournaments. The conditions are also quite tough sometimes and players might struggle because of that.
