Scottish Open Betting: Shane Lowry can make his move on a potentially exciting Saturday in Inverness
The third round of the Scottish Open is set to be played under good weather and that should bring a big crowd out to the Castle Stuart links given that some of the best players in the world are still involved in the tournament. As with all European Tour events the remaining players will go out in two balls on Saturday and there’s some excellent groups to entertain the crowds.
The final group is between Francesco Molinari and Alexander Noren with the Italian being 4/5 with Stan James to win that match. Other groups on the third day sees Padraig Harrington out with Ross Fisher while Luke Donald goes out with Anders Hansen and both groups could well attract plenty of the large galleries on Saturday. However from a betting point of view the group which interests me on the third day is the one between Shane Lowry and Thomas Aiken.
Both men go into the third round on nine under par and sitting just three off the lead so both will have the intention of pushing on and moving into contention for Sunday. Thomas Aiken is a little bit fortunate to be at nine under though as he’s only hit 19 of the 28 fairways so far and just 27 of the 36 greens in regulation. Neither are that hard to find but nevertheless Aiken has been relying on his scrambling a lot.
Shane Lowry has been playing the golf course a lot better so far. He has only missed five fairways and has hit 29 of the 36 greens so he is in a better position more of the time. Links golf is more natural to Lowry anyway and I expect him to go well on Saturday in conditions he should be expected to thrive in. At even money I think Lowry, who has played better than Aiken so far this week despite their similar score, is the bet here.
