Robertson vs Bond Betting: Neil Robertson can thrill the home crowds with an emphatic win over Nigel Bond
The crowds are sure to be out in force in Bendigo on Monday when the Australian hotshot Neil Robertson begins his quest for Australian Goldfields Open glory when he takes on Nigel Bond in the evening session local time. Nigel Bond will be looking to be a party pooper and move into the second round of the tournament but not surprisingly Robertson is a very warm 1/4 favourite with Stan James for this match.
Neil Robertson shot out of the Wuxi Classic without a trace a couple of weeks ago, losing to Jamie Burnett in the opening round. Instead of heading to Thailand to compete in the Six Red World Championship he decided to head to Australia early to prepare for this tournament. The Masters champion will automatically be under pressure as the Australian crowds look for a home winner this week but Robertson did beat Bond here last year so he knows how to do it.
Nigel Bond can never be written off because he’s so dogged and digs in every time he plays. The Shootout champion of 2011 hasn’t really done much in a major tournament for a while though and continues to slip down the rankings. Bond lost to Jimmy Robertson in Wuxi Classic qualifying but did come past Mark King in a deciding frame to qualify for this tournament which should boost his confidence.
I think Neil Robertson will win this one. He has made sure he is fully prepared for the tournament and will want to ensure a repeat of his defeat to Dominic Dale doesn’t happen here in front of his own fans. Nigel Bond won’t have played for a while and the conditions will be a lot more alien to him than they will be to Neil Robertson. With conditions to his liking and a good preparation I expect Robertson to put on a bit of a show and win this without losing more than two frames.
