Portugal vs Holland Betting: Dutch desperation for goals can lead to a high scoring game in Kharkiv
Euro 2012 hasn’t really got going for the Netherlands yet but it will have to start on Sunday night or else it will be over before it has even began. After two successive losses for the Dutch to qualify now they have to beat Portugal by at least two goals in Kharkiv on Sunday night and then hope Germany beat Denmark. Portugal just need to match Denmark’s result or avoid defeat here to go through.
Portugal were pretty poor in the first match but showed good character in their second match and are 15/8 with Paddy Power to pick up the win in this match which would guarantee they go into the knockout stages. We still haven’t seen Portugal at their best I don’t think. Cristiano Ronaldo is widely acclaimed as the best player in Europe right now but we haven’t seen anything like his best so far in the tournament so now would be a good time for him to show it.
The Dutch just haven’t been at the races so far in the tournament. They have looked a bit loose at the back and have been quite wasteful in attack but it will all have to come together in a big way if they are to escape this group from here. Changes are expected to be made for this match with Rafael van der Vaart and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar expected to start with Mark van Bommel and maybe Ibrahim Afellay the ones to make way.
Predicting which way this one will go isn’t easy because the Dutch have to be more expansive and take more risks than they would like to so the one thing I do expect to happen is that we see goals in this match and quite a few of them. Both teams look to be a lot stronger going forward than they do defensively and with the need for the Dutch to score goals I think we’ll see a really open game which contains a few goals here.
