Perry vs Fu Betting: Australian opening round match looks like being tight all the way
The Australian Goldfields Open continues on Tuesday with a match between Marco Fu and Joe Perry, a match which looks like a close one on paper. Neither player are currently in the top 16 so both will be looking to take advantage of the many top name absentees this week to improve their ranking significantly. Bookmakers have it as a close match too with Boylesports 9/10 for both players.
Joe Perry is a solid player who knows his way around the table and scores quite heavily when he gets the chance. He hasn’t started the season too well so far having lost in the second round of the Wuxi Classic to eventual winner Ricky Walden 5-4 despite being 4-0 down. That was his first match in that tournament as his first round opponent Matthew Stevens pulled out. He then lost to the same person in the Six Red World Championship last week.
Marco Fu is very similar to Joe Perry. He is a player with a solid all round game who can score when he gets in which makes me think this will be a close match. Fu never qualified for the Wuxi Classic which will have disappointed him but he qualified for this and he won a few matches at the Six Red World Championship so comes into this game in decent nick.
I can’t see any way that this won’t be a close match. Neither score devastatingly that they are going to run away with the match in an hour. Both dig in and take what is on offer and look to keep things tight so I don’t see this match ending any easier than 5-3 either way. With that in mind the over 7.5 frames line looks a good bet. I don’t expect too much to be given away by either so fully expect this to end at lead 5-3 to someone.
