Next West Brom Manager Betting: Chris Hughton is odds on to replace the departed Roy Hodgson
Roy Hodgson served his final day in charge of West Bromwich Albion on Sunday when he almost beat Arsenal but for a poor performance from his deputy keeper but now the attention at The Hawthorns focuses on the new England manager’s replacement. Skybet have a market up and running on this role with a variety of names from England and abroad all in the market.
However it would appear the market is all about one man and that is Chris Hughton. Hughton managed Newcastle in the Premier League albeit briefly before he was moved on for Alan Pardew to take over so he knows all about managing in the top flight. Hughton is currently managing outside of the Premier League with Birmingham after guiding them to the playoffs but not being able to guide them past Blackpool in their semi final last week. He is 8/11 to take over at The Hawthorns.
The second favourite for the job is also currently managing outside the Premier League. Former Baggie Michael Appleton is 4/1 to succeed Hodgson even though he couldn’t keep Portsmouth in the Championship. It must be said that wasn’t all his fault and he did a fairly good job in the circumstances given that Pompey went back into administration during the season but you sense West Brom are a bit bigger than him now.
Gus Poyet and Claudio Ranieri both rate as a 5/1 shot with Skybet. Poyet led Brighton to a respectable top half finish in the Championship this season and is destined for bigger and better things while Claudio Ranieri keeps getting linked with all these English jobs at least in terms of being in the betting markets for them but you just feel without disrespect to West Brom that he’s looking for a bigger job than them.
