Murphy vs Wattana Betting: Home hero Wattana can keep the crowds happy by knocking out Murphy
Somewhat surprisingly the match on the main table in the second session of the 6 Red World Championship in Bangkok on Thursday is the match between local hero James Wattana and Shaun Murphy for a place in the last 16. I say somewhat surprisingly because Stuart Bingham also plays Judd Trump in this session but the schedulers have opted for the home hope to feature on the TV table. Murphy is 1/2 favourite with Blue Square for the match.
James Wattana comes into the knockout stages of this tournament having finished fourth in his qualifying group. He managed three wins which shows how tough a group he was in that he was only good enough for the final qualifying place. He finished above the likes of Stephen Maguire which was no mean effort and shows that the six red format is one which suits him. We knew that anyway as he’s been a quarter finalist and semi finalist of this event in the past.
Shaun Murphy has gone almost unnoticed this week but he actually topped his group despite losing his first match to Andrew Higginson. He won all four after that which was enough to top the group as the only man who made it to four points in Group E. He only dropped four frames in those four matches too so Murphy is very much in good nick going into this match.
Despite Murphy being in good form here I like James Wattana’s chances. He has beaten Stephen Maguire this week already so we know he can beat the very best players and his record in this tournament suggests he may well be a big price in this match. In a normal 15 red match you would expect Murphy to come through but the 6 red format is a great leveller and undoubtedly the value lies with the Thai-phoon in this one.
